Internet giant Google has launched a new career certificate in cybersecurity which facilitates upskilling of employees and prepares individuals to acquire job-ready skills.

The Google Cybersecurity Certificate is part of the existing Google Career Certificate program in the Philippines.

“The Cybersecurity Google Career Certificate will help in the upskilling of the Filipino workforce to be globally competitive. This will also equip them with the skills needed to have resilience against cyber attacks and to build a safer and more secure online world,” Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy said.

“The DICT thanks Google for this generous effort in helping the Philippines in its digital transformation journey and looks forward to more opportunities for cooperation,” the DICT chief added.

Built by Google experts and vetted by employers, this cybersecurity certificate will provide hands-on experience to learners in using industry-standard tools like Python, Linux, and SQL as well as Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) and Intrusion Detection Systems (IDS) tools.

Likewise, the fully online program will prepare individuals for the CompTIA Security+ examination, the industry’s leading certification for cybersecurity roles.

“Creating more pathways for Filipinos to acquire the right digital skills and to competitively enter the cybersecurity field is essential. Google is deeply committed to working closely with our local partners across the public and private sectors to help develop the next generation of cybersecurity workforce and experts in the country,” Google Philippines Country Director Bernadette Nacario said.
