2 maiden Liloan-Camotes trips scheduled

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia

Cebu Governor Gwendolyn Garcia’s challenge to break the monopoly in the sea travels to Camotes island, two shipping companies are set to launch on 26 May its maiden voyages from Liloan, Cebu to Camotes Island.

This was the commitment of shipping operators Fast craft vessel OceanJet and Super Shuttle Roro, Pier 88 management, Maritime Industry Authority and Vallacar Transit buses management.

Garcia said the sea travels are badly wanted as many locals and travelers alike have long been waiting for this.

She hinted that the new trips will be better alternative to reach Camotes island and break the monopoly of Jomalia Shipping, currently the lone operator plying mainland Cebu-Camotes route via Danao City port.

The two shipping companies will ply the Liloan-Camotes-Liloan route once daily.  For OceanJet, its fast craft vessel will depart from Liloan’s Pier 88 at 8:30 a.m. and its return trip from Poro will depart at 1 p.m. on the same day.

Marina committed to issue the necessary permits for these routes. The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board has already issued a franchise for Ceres buses that will board the Super Shuttle Roro vessel. Ceres will be plying the Cebu City-Liloan-Camotes route, the first bus company to be issued a franchise for such route.

OceanJet’s fast craft can carry up to 350 passengers with a travel speed of 22 knots (around 40km/hr) that can traverse the expanse of space between the two islands in just an hour and 30 minutes.
