Road mishap hurts 9 firemen

The truck swerved to the left and hit the center island of the road, throwing the firefighters off the truck.

Nine firefighters were hurt in a road accident while on their way to respond to a fire in Hontiveros Compound, Fourth Estate Subdivision, Barangay San Antonio, Parañaque City on Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened at around 12:40 p.m. when the firefighters’ truck was reportedly avoiding a motorcycle rider.

The truck swerved to the left and hit the center island of the road, throwing the firefighters off the truck.

Police said the injured firefighters were brought to the Ospital ng Parañaque for treatment. Their injuries were not life-threatening.

Firefighters were responding to a blaze that broke out on the third floor of a house owned by one Vicente Renelle. The fire quickly spread to other houses in the area, which were made of light materials.

Reaching the fourth alarm, the fire was placed under control at around 3:04 p.m. It was declared out at around 7:34 p.m.

About 300 families were affected by the fire which resulted in P750,000 in damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
