Relocation set for uprooted tree victims’ families

Informal settlers living along waterways and other danger zones are the responsibility of the NHA and local government units.

Families affected by the collapse of a huge tree in Estero de Magdalena in Binondo, Manila were provided relief yesterday by the National Housing Authority.

NHA general manager Joeben Tai visited the families of those who died or were injured in the incident. He assured them of safe relocation.

About 40 families will be relocated by the NHA and the Manila City government, Tai said.

Meanwhile, Interior Secretary Benhur Abalos lauded the Bureau of Fire Protection and the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office for their quick response to the incident.

At least three persons were killed and five others were hurt when the huge tree collapsed.
