A 27-year-old man was arrested Thursday in Bocaue, Bulacan on suspicion of sextortion, police said.
Identified as Ravinner Denusta Cruz, the suspect allegedly threatened to post nude photos of his chatmate online if she did not agree to have sex with him and give him money.
The victim, identified as Roselle (not her real name), sought help from the Manila Police District’s Anti-Cyber Crime Team.
The team then set up an entrapment operation, in which Cruz was arrested when he met with the victim.
Cruz was found in possession of an iPhone 11 and three identification cards.
He is facing charges of violation of Article 286 (grave coercion) of the Revised Penal Code, and Republic Act No. 9995 (Anti-Photo and Video Voyeurism Act).
He will also be slapped with charges in relation to Republic Act 9262 (Violence Against Women and their Children Act), and Section 6 of Republic Act 10175 (Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012).
The MPD is urging anyone who has been a victim of sextortion to come forward and report it to the police.
