The Philippine women’s national softball team delivered a devastating 10-0 win over India in four innings at the Women’s Softball Asia Cup at the Songdo LNG Stadium in Incheon, South Korea Thursday.
The Blu Girls now hold a 5-2 win-loss record at fourth place as they continue to strengthen their bid to enter the bronze medal match on Saturday.
Mary Maguad made it 1-0 for the Philippines after scoring a run at the top of the first inning.
Come second inning, the Blu Girls added four more runs courtesy of Khrisha Cantor, Elsie dela Torre, Maria Charlotte Sales and Celyn Ojare to balloon the lead to 5-0.
Alaiza Talisik and Dela Torre added two more runs at the in the third inning to make it 7-0 for the Philippines.
Maguad, Arianne Vallestero, and Cantor added three more runs during the fourth inning to seal the win for the Philippines.
Amateur Softball Association of the Philippines president Jena Henri Lhuiller lauded the Blu Girls victory over the Indians.
“A huge congratulations to the RP Blu girls on their amazing 10-0 victory against India in the 2023 Women’s Softball Asia Cup! Your outstanding performance on the field is a testament to your hard work, discipline, and passion for the sport,” Lhuillier said.
The Philippines has one more match in the elimination round as it faces defending champion Japan on 7 April at 11 a.m. (Manila time).
