For the second straight game, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson finished with a triple-double performance — and TNT was unstoppable.
The National Basketball Association veteran picked up from where he left off in his team’s quarterfinals win over Phoenix and carried his big game at the start of their best-of-five semifinals series where he pumped in 22 points, 13 rebounds and 12 assists to carry the Tropang Giga to a dominant 110-80 beat down of Meralco Friday night in the Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Ynares Center in Antipolo.
Hollis-Jefferson’s solid, all-around game was also a reflection of the Tropang Giga’s more energized performance as they came out more aggressive against the Bolts, who appeared worn down showing up at the start of the semifinals series, possibly due to the effect of their come-from-behind 113-107 overtime victory over Magnolia.
TNT dominated Meralco at almost all fronts, including the points coming off turnovers, 23-3.
The Tropang Giga also had 42 bench points, 11 more than their rivals, and had more fast break points, 20-10.
Curiously, TNT, which is known for its firepower, was able to pick up seven steals compared to only one for Meralco.
“I think if Rondae is in a good state of mind and heart, he sees the floor better,” said TNT coach Jojo Lastimosa. “Tonight was one of those nights where he sees the floor better.”
