Janrey Pasaol is set to stay at Far Eastern University after leading its juniors basketball team — the Baby Tamaraws — to the title of Season 85 University Athletic Association of the Philippines.

In an interview, the gutsy guard expressed gratitude to the school, saying that he will repay its faith in him by joining the Tamaraws next year.

Pasaol, the younger brother of Meralco forward Alvin Pasaol, is coming off a very successful campaign in the juniors division after leading the Baby Tams to the title.

He posted averages of 15.7 points, 6.7 assists, 4.9 rebounds and 2.4 steals per game to banner the Baby Tamaraws to a victory over reigning champion National University Nazareth School in the Final Four and a sweep of Adamson University in the best-of-three finals.

He was also selected to be part of the Mythical Team after backing up Finals Most Valuable Player Kirby Mongcopa.

“I chose to stay in FEU because I have so much thanks to them for the huge help they have given me not just in basketball, but also in life too,” the 18-year-old Pasaol said.

“I’m also thankful because this is the school that many dream of playing for and I was given the chance to study and play here.”

FEU mentor Denok Miranda said Pasaol’s inclusion in the seniors program will be a big boost to their campaign as they seek to claim the title they last tasted in 2015.

“He will be helping a lot for the team, especially since he knows my system already,” Miranda, who served as one of the assistant coaches of Allan Albano with the Baby Tamaraws, said.

Miranda added that the 5-foot-11 Pasaol will be a big help to their playmaker rotation bannered by veteran L-Jay Gonzales as they seek to make a return to the Final Four after bombing out the previous season.
