Castro, Gaccion hold sway

Zachary Castro struggled with a nine-over-par 81 at the Faldo course of the Eagle Ridge Golf and Country Club but kept the lead in the boys’ 16-below division in the Faldo Series Qualifiers on Friday.

Together with his 75 in the first round, Castro has a 36-hole total of 156, three points clear of new challenger Cliff Nuneza who carded a 77. Bobe Salahog was running third on 160 after a second-straight 80.

In the girls’ 16-below, Alethea Gaccion submitted an 83 for 163, three shots clear of Lim Minghui who turned in an 81.

Joshua Buenaventura remained the leader in the boys’ 21-below after another 85. Rald Sarmiento was six shots back on 176.

Ayeesha Ong already clinched one of four spots to the Faldo Series Asia after Burberry Zhang withdrew on Saturday in the girls’ 21-below.
