Actor Arjo Atayde is set to reprise his role in the upcoming remake of the hit action-drama series Bagman, which will be the center of ABS-CBN’s international co-production efforts for 2023.
The show is about a barber and soon-to-be father named Benjo Malaya (Atayde), who performs “jobs” for a governor in order to keep his barbershop open but finds himself drawn into a deadly web of lies and political drama. He makes the decision to “protect’’ what he believes to be most important to him by using his skills to climb the country’s power structure.
Atayde embraced the news and thanked the creators for providing him the opportunity to reprise the role, which earned him the Best Actor award at the 2020 Asian Academy Creative Awards.
“Just when you thought it was over… we’ve got a story to continue. I am very grateful and happy I get to reprise the role of Benjo,” he said in an instagram post.
According to Variety, ABS-CBN will unveil the show in Hong Kong’s FilMart next week.
“Having had the privilege of being the first Filipino company to screen a series at MIPCOM, we are honored to be following up on the success of Cattleya Killer with our new premium drama series The Bagman,” Ruel S. Bayani, head of ABS-CBN’s international production division, said in a report.
They “continue to advocate Filipino representation” in a way that is “engaging and entertaining in today’s global marketplace”, added Bayani, and that they have “no doubt” The Bagman, which is full of action, suspense and dark comedy, will keep viewers around the world spellbound.
Raymond Bagatsing, Alan Paule, Yayo Aguila, Chanel Latorre, and Yayo Aguila will all appear in the Bagman remake, to be produced by Dreamscape Digital and Rein Entertainment under Shugo Praico’s direction.
