The Korean Cultural Center in the Philippines celebrates International Women’s Day and the National Women’s Month through “Women’s Lives on Film” this March.
KCC, in partnership with SM Cinema and Film Development Council of the Philippines, is screening three iconic Korean women’s films this month. The first film will be shown today, 17 March, 7 p.m., at the KCC Building in Taguig City, while the two other films will be shown for free on 30 and 31 March respectively, 7 p.m., at SM Cinema Aura Premier.
Presenting Cart (director Boo Jiyoung, 2014), Kim Minyoung of the Report Card (director Lee Jaeeun, Lim Jisun, 2022), and Baseball Girl (director Choi Yuntae, 2020), this specially curated film screening intends to convey the stories of women of all ages in society — their viewpoints, challenges, and triumphs, with the intent of bringing gender empowerment and awareness to light.
Cart, starring Yum Jungah from SKY Castle, D.O. of EXO and Chun Woo-hee from Be Melodramatic, is a 2014 movie that portrays the real-life story and struggles of female contract workers. Watch these women unite and fight for what is right. (The 17 March Cart screening at KCC Building is already fully booked.)
Kim Minyoung of the Report Card is an award-winning film at the Jeonju International Film Festival and Seoul International Women’s Film Festival. This film talks about friendship and the concerns of young women at the start of adulthood. It will be shown on 30 March at SM Cinema Aura Premier.
Weightlifting Fairy Kim Bok-Joo, starring Lee Joo-young (of several hit K-dramas including Itaewon Class), tells the story of a female athlete challenging herself to go beyond the limitations imposed on her. This film will be screened on 31 March at SM Cinema Aura Premier.
Online reservation is available for those who want to ensure their seats, starting on 27 March until seat availability lasts. Claiming of the actual ticket will be done at 5 p.m. on the screening date of one’s choice at the cinema lobby, Level 4, SM Aura Premier.
Those who miss the online reservation may still get the chance to score a ticket.
