LTFRB extends PUVs’ special permits during Lent

The amended duration came on the heels of Proclamation 90 by Malacañang, which declared as regular holidays 6 and 7 April, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, respectively.

The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board on Friday said it amended the duration of special permits to be issued to selected public utility vehicles so they can operate during the Holy Week.

In Board Resolution 009, the LTFRB “resolves to amend the duration of the Special Permit for 2023 Holy Week from 02 April 2023 to 11 April 2023 to 31 March 2023 to 17 April 2023.”

The amended duration came on the heels of Proclamation 90 by Malacañang, which declared as regular holidays 6 and 7 April, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday, respectively.

The proclamation also moved the commemoration of Araw ng Kagitingan (Day of Valor), a regular holiday observed every 9 April, falling on a Sunday this year, to Monday, 10 April.

“With the five-day break, it (the Palace proclamation) will give more Filipinos the chance to spend more time with their families in the provinces and for spiritual reflection during the Holy Week,” LTFRB chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III said.

“That is why the board decided to change the duration of the special permits so that the commuting public is assured of a sufficient supply of public transportation that would take them to their destination,” Guadiz added.
