Kuya Bong backs teaching supply allowance

Senator Christopher ‘Bong’ Go

Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go co-sponsored on Tuesday Senate Bill 1964, or the Kabalikat sa Pagtuturo Act principally sponsored by Senator Ramon Revilla Jr. which seeks to institutionalize teaching supplies allowances for public school teachers.

“Schools are now open, and most are now face-to-face classes. This also means that the teachers’ problems are back — the lack of teaching materials such as chalks and other supplies,” said Go in his co-sponsorship speech during the Senate Plenary session.

“This also forced most of our teachers to dip into their own pockets just to ensure that their students have the resources they need to learn,” he added.

The allowance will not be subject to income tax and will be adjusted every three years to keep up with the changing prices of teaching supplies and materials.

Allowance for teaching supplies will be raised from P5,000 to P7,500 for the academic year 2023 to 2024 and P10,000 for the academic year 2024 to 2025 if the proposed measure pushes through.

The allowance will not be subject to income tax and will be adjusted every three years to keep up with the changing prices of teaching supplies and materials.

Meantime, the lawmaker extended support to a family whose house was damaged by a recent fire incident in Mainit, Surigao del Norte as he reaffirmed that the government remains committed to bolstering its fire prevention interventions.

The affected household received grocery packs, shirts, masks, vitamins, caps, slippers, snacks, and a ball for basketball.

Go also joined the opening of the Anilag Festival, a weeklong celebration for the bountiful harvest, rich traditions, and culture of each of the six cities and 24 towns in Laguna on the same day.
