The Quezon City Regional Trial Court on Wednesday has found guilty the three individuals accused in the carnapping with homicide case involving Venson Evangelista, son of Volunteers against Crime and Corruption president Arsenio Evangelista.
Quezon City RTC Branch 215 Judge Rafael Hipolito sentenced Rolando Talban, the self-confessed gunman; Jason Miranda and Roger Dominguez to reclusion perpetua or 40 years of imprisonment for the death of the young Evangelista.
“Venson, you took me here. I promised you at that time that I will fight endlessly for you. I am willing to take the bullet just to see you get justice. Son, I love you so much,”Anak, mahal na mahal kita,” said the VACC president.
Meantime, a counsel of Dominguez, Atty. Oscar Caraan, said their camp plans to file a motion for reconsideration against Hipolito’s decision.
On 13 January 2011, a supposed buyer, who pretended to be a transvestite and a mechanic went to the Evangelista’s showroom in Cubao, Quezon City to inquire about a second-hand Toyota Land Cruiser.
Venson allowed the two suspects to test drive the vehicle.
Later, the police saw the burned boy of Venson in Barangay Buliran, Cabanatuan City in Nueva Ecija.
Talban, Dominguez and Miranda were believed to be members of the Dominguez organized syndicate.
Meanwhile, Bulacan Provincial Prosecutor Ramoncito Bienvenido Ocampo, Jr. — who was the first to handle the case — is “very thankful cause it’s all over.”
“The justice and conviction is a victory of the people and the trial of justice. It only shows that the wheel of justice is running,” Ocampo said.
