The local government of Pasig City launched its 450th Araw ng Pasig year-long celebration in an event dubbed as “Paglulunsad | Panahon ng Pasigueño | Ikaapat at Kalahating Siglo ng Pasig” at the Pasig City Hall Quadrangle recently.
Culture-filled performances from various student groups such as the Rizal Technological University-Pasig’s Kultura Rizalia and Himig Rizalia; Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig’s Himig Chorale; and Rizal High School’s Folkloric Group jumpstarted the event which was highlighted by the formal launching of the 450th Araw ng Pasig logo.
Mayor Vico Sotto stressed that what Pasigueños are really celebrating every 2 July is the establishment of Pasig City’s “población” at its current location in 1573.
Sotto also hopes that everyone shares his sentiment towards this momentous milestone — that it is an honor to be alive and serve the Pasigueños in the city’s 450th year.
Prior the unveiling of the 450th Araw ng Pasig logo, Councilor Angelu de Leon, as the City Council’s Committee Chairperson on Cultural and Spiritual Affairs, explained the elements of the logo by providing a short introduction on the 450th Araw ng Pasig celebration.
To effectively tell the Pasigueño story, Letras y Figuras, a genre of painting pioneered by a Filipino during the Spanish colonial period, was employed in the creation of the 450th Araw ng Pasig logo. The logo features famous symbols of Pasig’s history, culture, and people through the years.
