DMW chief warns vs ‘modern slavery’

Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Susan Ople on Tuesday urged world labor and migration counterparts to combat forms of illegal recruitment and human trafficking online — calling such cases a form of “modern slavery.”

Ople stressed that world leaders should intensify their efforts against online trafficking, including crypto-currency welfare cases in Cambodia, Laos and Myanmar during her speech before global labor and migration officers during the Fifth Colombo Process’s Thematic Area Working Group Meeting on Pre-Departure Orientation and Employment, which the Philippines chaired before ten other member- countries.

“We shall gladly take on this challenge. We invite our colleagues present here today to join us in the fight against modern slavery,” Ople said.
