A suspect in the killing of a former vice mayor in Trece Martices, Cavite was arrested in Barangay San Jose, Antipolo City Monday.
The suspect, identified as Ariel Paiton, was also wounded allegedly after resisting arrest.
Paiton has a standing warrant of arrest for the crime of murder and frustrated murder issued by Judge Bonifacio Pascua of Trece Martires City, Cavite.
He is the primary suspect in the killing of former vice mayor Alex Lubigan in 2018. Recovered from him was a caliber 45 pistol and bullets.
The arrested man allegedly opened fire at the operatives, prompting them to fire back. He was hit on the right arm and was then arrested at the back of his house where he tried to escape but was cornered.
The suspect was rushed to the Rizal Provincial Hospital System Antipolo Annex for treatment.
He was placed under the custody of the Cavite Provincial Intelligence Unit for proper disposition.
