The Bureau of Fire Protection and 81 SM Malls in the country on Monday conducted simultaneous fire drills to raise public awareness as part of Fire Prevention Month.
The drill had its highlight at the SM City North EDSA where an earthquake and fire simulation was held starting at 8:30 a.m.
The drill replicated a scenario of “a 7.8 magnitude with intensity 8 earthquake” hitting Metro Manila on the said time and date.
The storyline showed that “Quezon City was severely damaged” by the temblor with some structures like SM City North EDSA compound incurring damages with other “buildings already collapsing.”
In the prepared script, the BFP bared that some roads around SM were full of debris from the damaged structures rendering them impassable to all kinds of vehicles with access only to North Avenue.
“Communication and power lines are totally cut off and generators are the only available sources of electricity. There were reported evacuees who converged at their designated assembly area,” the BFP said.
The scene had four missing or trapped persons, five injured individuals with “deformities, open wounds, tenderness and swelling.”
