SC junks Vhong rape, lasciviousness raps
The CA earlier reversed the Department of Justice resolutions that dismissed the charges against Navarro that led to the filing of the two cases against him

The Supreme Court has dismissed the rape and acts of lasciviousness cases filed against television host and actor Ferdinand “Vhong” Navarro, granting the latter’s petition for review on certiorari.
The SC Third Division, in a 43-page decision made public on Monday, ordered the dismissal of the charges due to lack of probable cause.
Junked by the SC was the information filed against Navarro before the Court of Appeals in CA SP 166222.
The CA earlier reversed the Department of Justice resolutions that dismissed the charges against Navarro that led to the filing of the two cases against him.
The appellate court, the SC said, “erred in finding that the DoJ committed grave abuse of discretion amounting to lack or excess of jurisdiction in dismissing the third complaint for rape and attempted rape against Navarro for lack of probable cause.”
Associate Justice Henri Jean Paul Inting penned the ruling that was concurred in by Associate Justices Alfredo Benjamin Caguioa, Samuel Gaerlan, Japar Dimaampao and Maria Filomena Singh.
The Taguig Court allowed Navarro to post bail after upholding his petition for temporary liberty while the case is being heard.
