The Department of Agriculture’s inspectorate and enforcement office said Monday it has seized P40 million worth of smuggled poultry products that entered the country through the Port of Subic.
Seized were two containers under consignee Abucayan Business and Trade, which were placed on alert order by the Bureau of Customs last 2 March.
The seizure was done by the DA along with the Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority, Philippine Coast Guard, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, and Bureau of Animal Industry.
The containers were declared to contain squid rings but were found to contain dressed chicken and duck parts worth about P40 million.
The products were loaded in two container vans that were also reportedly lacking the necessary documents, including the Phytosanitary Import Clearance.
DA officials said they will prosecute those behind the shipment for violating Republic Act 10611, the Food Safety Act of 2013; and Republic Act 10845, the Anti-Agricultural Smuggling Act of 2016.
