NBP buries 9 cadavers more

The Bureau of Corrections said nine unclaimed remains of persons deprived of liberty at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City have been buried.

The burial of the nine remains took place last 3 March and eight more last 19 January, bringing to a total of 157 the unclaimed remains of PDLs that had been laid to rest at the NBP cemetery since November 2022.

It said in a statement: “The Bureau of Corrections, through its Acting Director General Gregorio Pio Catapang Jr., remains faithful to its mandate, which includes providing compassionate corrections service to our clientele.”

Proper ceremony

The burial of the remains was done by the Civil Engineering Section of the BuCor’s General Services Division and NBP Cemetery Management Section.

Before the remains were finally laid in their resting place, they were blessed by CTS Insp. Dominic Librea, BuCor chaplain and chief of the Moral and Spiritual Division with the assistance of CES and NBP CMS personnel.

The BuCor had said earlier that the remains of PDLs, who died due to various illnesses, are stored in a funeral parlor pending notifications to their families and relatives.

The bureau said if not claimed within a reasonable period after notification, the remains are buried and the families and relatives are again notified of the burial.
