Alex Eala and Justine Mikulskyte of Lithuania were booted out of the W60 Trnava women’s doubles tournament after absorbing a 6-4, 6-1 loss to Alicia Barnett and Olivia Nicholls of Great Britain in the semifinal Friday evening.
The British duo took one hour and 20 minutes to tear Eala and Mikulskyte apart to book a ticket in the championship round.
Barnett and Nicholls are facing Amina Anshba of Russia and Anastacia Detiuc of Czech Republic in the final at press time.
The Filipino-Lithuanian tandem beat the local pair of Ela Platenikova and Nina Vargova in the first round, 6-1, 6-0, before taking down Germany’s Vivian Heisen and Julia Lohoff, 7-5, 6-4, in the quarterfinal.
Last Friday, Eala bowed out of the women’s singles tournament after suffering a 6-2, 6-2 loss to British tennis player Sonay Kartal in the second round.
Eala is seeking to improve her Women’s Tennis Association rankings to qualify for this year’s French Open starting 28 May.
Currently, the 17-year-old netter is currently ranked at No. 220 in the latest WTA rankings and will need to either get in via the qualifying rounds or get a wildcard to enter the second Grand Slam of the year.
