ZAMBOANGA CITY — Police Regional Office for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao director P/Brig. Gen. John Gano Guyguyon on Sunday pinned the “Medalya ng Sugatang Magiting” to wounded police officials who were involved in a gunfight while serving a warrant of arrest to a notorious member of a Dawla Islamiyah in Lanao del Sur.

Guyguyon honored Marantao Municipal Police Station chief P/Maj Bobby E Egera and two of his men — P/Corporal Mujahid B Taurac and P/Corporal Al-Sadat Jahari — for their outstanding gallantry while on duty.

Guyguyon personally visited the three injured policemen at Amai Pakpak Medical Center in Marawi City and conferred the medals to honor their bravery and courage and provided financial assistance to their immediate families on Friday.

The three policemen went to serve a warrant of arrest against Abbas Dimnang Rampa alias Esmayatin “Datu” Soma, at his hideout located in Barangay Nataron, Marantao, Lanao del Sur on Thursday.

Rampa, who was listed as the number two most wanted person in Marantao, died during the firefight while two of his men identified as Ansaruna Mulingan Magi and Johari Taban Barani were captured by the authorities.

One unit of caliber 6.56 M16 rifle, live ammunition of caliber 5.56 rifle, assorted drug paraphernalia, one unit hand grenade, and 18 pieces of heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets believed to be shabu were recovered at the encounter site

Rampa was wanted for murder and violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, issued by the Presiding Judge of the Regional Trial Court, 12 Judicial Region, Branch 8 of Marawi City, Lanao del Sur.
