In the wake of the death of OFW Jullebee Ranara in Kuwait, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. said on Monday that the Philippine government is “scheduling bilateral meetings” with the Kuwait agreement to revisit the two countries’ labor agreement.
“We have to see if there are weaknesses in the agreement that allow this to happen and to make sure that those weaknesses are remedied so that the agreement is stronger and will be more supportive of our workers,” Marcos told reporters in an ambush interview.
“Furthermore, we hope this will not happen again to anyone of our countrymen,” he added.
Marcos, accompanied by Migrant Workers Secretary Susan “Toots” Ople, visited Ranara’s wake and assured her bereaved family of government assistance, such as scholarships for Ranara’s children.
“Lahat ng assistance na pwede nating maibigay, ibibigay natin” (We will assist them in every way), he said.
