7 Chinese crew members rescued
‘We discovered that the fishing vessel floated in the said area for four days. We are still checking why their vessel was in Philippine waters.’

Seven crew members of a Chinese fishing vessel were rescued by the Philippine Coast Guard after the ship listed when its hull was damaged, in Suluan Island, Guiuan, Eastern Samar on Friday.
Information reaching PCG headquarters in Manila said the PCG immediately deployed its BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) vessel to rescue seven Chinese crew.
The report further said at around 2:09 p.m. last 26 January 2023, the PCG Command Center received a report regarding a Chinese fishing vessel, FV KAI DA 899 that had a damaged hull.
As the Coast Guard of a responsible member of the international community of civilized maritime nations, the PCG renders aid to all judicious users of the seas within our search and rescue region.
“We discovered that the fishing vessel floated in the said area for four days. We are still checking why their vessel was in Philippine waters. It is also possible that they are just looking for the nearest island to seek refuge as their vessel was damaged,” PCG spokesperson Armand Balilo said.
Immediately, BRP Cabra (MRRV-4409) proceeded to the said vicinity waters to conduct SAR operation.
After rescuing the crew and ensuring that they were in good physical condition, BRP Cabra proceeded to tow FV KAI DA 899 en route to Tacloban Port.
The PCG will also provide the rescued crew with medical care and other necessary assistance upon arrival at the port.
