Agri damages due to shear line at P1.13-B

The Department of Agriculture revealed on Wednesday that rains and flooding brought on by the shear line, low-pressure area, and northeast monsoon in at least eight regions across the country already resulted in at least P1.13 billion in damages to the agricultural sector.

In its latest bulletin, the DA Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office recorded a total production loss of 18,663 metric tons, covering 57,561 hectares of agricultural areas.

The affected regions include Bicol, Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, Western Visayas, Central Visayas, Eastern Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, Northern Mindanao and Caraga.

It also said that the bulk of the damage on the rice plantations with P945.8 million production loss covering 49,296 hectares, adding that the affected commodities include rice, corn, cassava, high value crops, and livestock and poultry.

“The DA, through its RFOs, is monitoring the effects of the weather disturbances and conducting assessment of damage and losses brought in the agri-fisheries sector,” the Agriculture department said.
