‘Industry milestone:’ Kapamilya, Kapuso networks unite for new drama series
Two of the country’s media giants are partnering with Viu for an upcoming romantic drama series.
ABS-CBN and GMA Network have inked a deal with the streaming platform to co-produce Unbreak My Heart, which will star Joshua Garcia, Jodi Sta. Maria, Gabbi Garcia, and Richard Yap.
The series will be filmed in Switzerland and will air on GMA this 2023. It will also stream in 15 territories outside of the Philippines via Viu.
“This is a milestone in the industry. We’re thankful for this opportunity and we’re very happy to work with GMA to serve our audiences. We unite as one team. We never imagined that this was going to happen,” said Cory Vidanes, ABS-CBN COO of Broadcast.
Joining the cast of Unbreak My Heart are Maey Bautista, Will Ashley, Bianca de Vera, Nikki Valdez, Eula Valdes, and Laurice Guillen, under the direction of Emmanuel Q. Palo and Dolly Dulu.
The series marks the first pairing of Joshua and Gabbi. Sta. Maria and Yap, meanwhile, worked together in the Kapamilya morning drama Be Careful with My Heart from 2012 to 2014, as well as the 2016 film The Achy Breaky Hearts.
“It’s a first for Philippine TV, and I’m sure it’s the audience that will be the winners in this collaboration. We’re very excited to be working with ABS-CBN on TV for the first time,” said Annette Gozon-Valdes, GMA Senior Vice-President for Programming, Talent Management, Worldwide, and Support Groups.
In 2022, GMA Network and ABS-CBN signed a contract that gave rights to GMA to air Star Cinema titles such as It Takes a Man and a Woman, Isa Pa With Feelings, Suddenly Its Magic, and I Love You, Hater.
