The usual LUV we love… only greener

I personally first caught eye of the Suzuki Ertiga during a short stint in New Delhi, India in 2015. Instantly, the simple lovable lifestyle-utility vehicle earned a spot in my heart as it was — back then — charming as it could ever be.

To begin with, the Ertiga’s name originated from Indonesia’s own version of it — the R3 — “Er” stands for “R” and “Tiga,” which means “three,” refers to the vehicle’s three seating rows.

Fast forward to almost a decade after, another new-generation of this charmer arrives in our own shores. But this time, it’s better — and definitely a lot greener.

First and foremost, Filipinos will be captivated by its Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki. Together with it would be its modern features which are the Engine Auto Stop-Start System, 4.2-inch full-color TFT LCD multi-information display, cruise control, automatic headlamp with follow-me-home headlamp function and its fuel-efficient features.

At the onset, it presents the same people carrier we have always known it for, only more elegant and exudes a lot more suave. Its long shoulder line and aerodynamic roofline create a more flowing look from its side.

Inside, its interior still provides comfortable seating for up to seven people and has been arranged in three rows so that the driver can easily reconfigure the needs, offering a simple, practical solution whenever the owner’s seating requires alteration.

Safety features
Safety-wise, it is packed with passive and active safety features. Aside from the usual dual airbag and ABS with EBD, it is equipped with hill-hold control and electronic stability program to keep you in better control of the vehicle.

This time, its body structure revolves around Suzuki’s TECT (Total-Effective Control Technology) and new HEARTECT platform, which makes the body light and rigid, effectively absorbing impact upon collision and improving overall driving dynamics.

The vehicle comes with four-speed automatic and five-speed manual transmission for a spirited and stress-free driving experience.

Smart hybrid vehicle by Suzuki
This smart hybrid vehicle packs a powerful and fuel-efficient 1.5-liter petrol engine that produces impressive torque for quick acceleration, proving Suzuki’s technology in every detail. Integrated Starter Generator replaces the conventional alternator that has the functionality of charging the battery and electric motor while providing assistance during standing starts and acceleration. For thrifters, it also has an Engine Auto Stop-Start System that automatically stops the engine when the vehicle is in idle to prevent unnecessary fuel consumption.

It comes with a variety of choices in colors in GA and GL/GLX features. Snow White Pearl, Silky Silver Metallic and Cool Black Pearl are for the GA variant. While additional colors of Metallic Magma Gray, Burgundy Red Pearl and Brave Khaki Pearl are available for the GL/GLX variants.

In a recent drive as observed by the Automotive Association of the Philippines (AAP), this greener Ertiga churned out an impressive 12.54 km/L (or 7.6 percent better) than the regular engine Ertiga on city driving.

Moreover, Suzuki’s first hybrid vehicle offering qualifies for EVIDA implementing rules and regulations. With this, future owners will be exempted from number coding, entitled to 15 percent on vehicle registration and priority lane, together with offers for franchise registration and TESDA training program.
To keep up with the current cutthroat competition, the Suzuki Ertiga Hybrid is priced in four variants: GA M/T at P954,000; GL M/T at P1,068,000; GL A/T at P1,103,000 and GLX A/T at P1,153,000.
