Tondo fire claims 12-year-old PWD

A 12-year-old person with disability died after he was trapped inside his house Saturday afternoon in Tondo, Manila

Authorities identified the fatality as Carlo Cruz who has Down Syndrome, a genetic disorder caused by abnormal cell division which causes developmental changes.

Arson Investigation chief Fire senior inspector Alejandro Ramos said the fire occurred at 11:21 a.m. along Sandico street corner Barcelona Street under Barangay 35, Zone 3, District 1.

The blaze quickly reached the third alarm as some 20 houses were made of light materials, according to the Bureau of Fire Protection
Baltazar Cruz, father of the late fatality, said they failed to rescue his son and bring him out of the house due to his heavy built. It was learned that lack of water supply hampered rescue efforts. The BFP declared the fire out at 1 p.m.

An estimated ₱350,000 worth of property was destroyed by the fire. Arson Investigators are still conducting an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
