Bongabon onion farms undergo field verification

BONGABON, Nueva Ecija — The Department of Agriculture announced that it has recently conducted the last day of its Field Verification of Onion Production, Distribution Performance and Assessment of DA Interventions here.

The Department of Agriculture-Office of the Secretary Monitoring Team, High Value Crops Development Program Central Office and the HVCDP Central Luzon led the field verification after conducting the same activity at onion farms in the province of Tarlac.

The activity is led by Project Evaluation IV Julito D. Velasco of the DA-OSEC along with Project Development Officer IV Jose Jeffrey D. Rodriguez, Project Development Officer IV Arnold B. Timoteo, MPA and Project Development Officer II Geronimo de la Cruz from the HVCDP Central Luzon and Agriculturist 1 Glarissa Balbares from the HVCDP Regional Office.

The group first paid a courtesy visit to the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist in Palayan City.

The activity aims to determine the expanse of the area used in onion farming and the number of onions expected to be harvested versus the actual number of harvested onions and to verify the capacity of farmlands in harvesting onions, ensuring that the supply can keep up with the demand.

The group visited onion farmlands in Barangay Tugatug and Pesa here with the help of Provincial HVCDP Report Officer Marlon Aleman Jr. of Nueva Ecija and Bongabon Municipal Agriculturist Officer Jackielou Gallarde.

The monitoring team also determined the current gate price after the prices of onions skyrocketed during the start of 2023.
