Tabuk LGU employee meets tragic end

BAGUIO CITY — Authorities disclosed on Friday that an employee of the local government of Tabuk town in Kalinga province was killed after being hit by a speeding van driven by a 14-year-old student on Thursday afternoon.

Police identified the victim as Ruben Bannas, a resident of Bulanao in Tabuk town. He was declared dead on arrival at the Kalinga Provincial Hospital.

Initial reports said that the victim was driving his motorcycle heading home along the provincial road in Barangay San Juan when the van driven by the teenager hit the rear of his motorcycle.

After the collision, the victim was thrown at least 30 meters from where he was hit as he skidded on the concrete pavement.

The suspect, on the other hand, escaped towards the direction of Barangay Dagupan while the victim was rushed to the hospital by personnel from the Tabuk City Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office. Bannas sustained serious head injury and multiple fractures and lacerations.

The teenager was surrendered by his parents to the personnel of the Tabuk City Police.
