Manila cops prevent suicide attempt

The Manila Police District on Friday reported that personnel from the MPD Station 6 and Bureau of Fire Protection rescued an individual who attempted to jump from the 10th floor of a condominium in Sta. Ana, Manila on Thursday afternoon.

MPD-PS 6 station commander P/Lt. Col. Orlando Mirando identified the individual as Imman Guinto.

Initial reports disclosed that a concerned citizen alerted police at 4:30 p.m. after the individual was seen wandering along the edge of the terrace of his rented room in the building.

Witnesses said that the man appeared to be anxious, which prompted them to seek police assistance.

Authorities responded immediately to the call and upon reaching the area, police tried to convince the man not to jump.

The police were also assisted by Bureau of Fire personnel as they prepared life-saving equipment should the negotiations fail.

After several failed attempts to convince the individual to move away from the edge of the terrace, police and firemen forced their way inside the room and grabbed the man.

Investigations showed that the man attempted to end his life after his girlfriend — which was found out to be the owner of the condominium unit — broke up with him.
