ZAMBOANGA CITY — The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao Police Regional Office revealed on Friday that at least 32 individuals — 30 of which were believed to be former members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters and two former members of the Daulah Islamiyah group — surrendered to authorities.

According to PRO-BAR regional director Pol. Brig Gen. John Gano Guyguyon, the rebels also turned over 33 high-powered firearms, an improvised explosive device and hand grenades.

The 32 insurgents surrendered to authorities at the PRO-BAR headquarters located at Camp BGen Salipada Pendatun in Parang, Maguindanao del Norte on Thursday.

Guyguyon said that the 30 former BIFF members under Karialan and Bungos Factions were all operating in SPMS Box in Maguindanao province and also moving around the neighboring municipalities in Sultan Kudarat and North Cotabato.

The other two individuals, on the other hand, were believed to be DI-listed private armed group members under leader Mohammad Andoy.

Guyguyon also disclosed that they conducted several negotiations with the BIFF-Andoy Group, convincing them to voluntarily surrender to the authorities and to live again a normal life in their respective communities.

The two former DI-Andoy Group members — after learning about the negotiation and the benefits they could avail from the government — also presented themselves to the police.

The two DI-PPAG members were operating in Pagalungan, Maguindanao del Sur.
