Each year, the over-a-century-old Casino Español de Cebu serves as the venue of choice for its members and their guests as they bid farewell to the past year and celebrate El Año Nuevo.
For decades, the traditional Baile de Disfrases was a costume ball of every imaginable theme. However, for this year, the concept shifted to formal attires of sophistication, elegance, glam, and glitz.
A lot of members in years past had to leave their children home, for the age limit was implemented in full force. However, these once-upon-a-time kids have now bloomed ed into young party-age adults. Thus, we witnessed complete families in celebration.
The dinner of all dinners brought out the best of the best, from the freshest desired fish to the succulent lamb chops and the lavish dessert spread, meticulously planned and expertly prepared by executive chef Rico Villarante and Sous chef Engelen Pimentel.
All the while, the On the Cover Band played today’s top hits.
A parade of participants in their classy and dapper outfits soon took the floor, where a panel of non-Cebuano judges impartially evaluated the perfect match of the evening.
At the end of the extended night — more like dawn — of fun and merrymaking, the survivors peacefully sipped their coffee and brandy with smiles on their faces hoping and wishing for a better year ahead.
