A fast food restaurant in Pasig City has been shut down by the city government for violating environmental protocols and laws.
Mayor Vico Sotto said KFC Victoria in Kapasigan was served a closure order after it was found to be dumping its wastewater in a nearby creek and operating without an environmental permit.
“The oily sludge was very thick, they were dumping their wastewater directly into Parian Creek. They also didn’t have an environmental permit to operate,” Sotto said in a Facebook post on Thursday night.
Sotto said the establishment could resume operations once they secured an environmental permit.
“They can reopen when their wastewater treatment is fixed and they have secured a permit,” he said.
He said this should serve as a warning to other establishments violating environmental laws.
“I love KFC, but I share this as a warning to other establishments,” he said.
“We are just wasting our time cleaning up our creeks if we don’t follow environmental regulations,” the mayor added.
