TACLOBAN CITY — Authorities in Eastern Visayas reported that two individuals took their own life after having love problems over the weekend.

Police identified the first individual as Pablo Apiag, a resident of Barangay Sto. Niño, Mahaplag, Leyte. Investigation showed that the victim took his life by hanging while on a video call with his girlfriend.

Police Chief Master Sergeant Erik Gandulfos of the Mahaplag Municipal Police Station said they received a call on Sunday at around 6:30 in the morning from a concerned resident regarding a suicide incident.

Initial investigation showed that the victim was having a heated argument with his girlfriend while they were on a video call. While they were having a spat, Apiag tied neck with a rope and hanged himself.

The body of the victim was brought by his relatives to Mahaplag Rural Health Unit but was declared dead on arrival by the Municipal Health Officer.

On Sunday, 20-year-old Romarie Agravante also took her life by hanging at Barangay Casandig, Gandara, Samar. Police said that the girl was suffering from emotional depression after learning that her boyfriend was having an affair with another woman.

Agravante was found by her relatives hanging with a round tied on her neck inside their house and was brought by his relatives to Gandara District Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival by the attending physician.
