Abra quake infra damage now nearly P82M

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council recorded P81,980,750 worth of damage to infrastructure following the Abra quake on 25 October.

In its latest data, NDRRMC said a total of 223 structures were destroyed by the earthquake, with P59,062,750 worth of damage reported in the Cordillera Administrative Region, P21,150,000 in the Ilocos region, and P1,768,000 in Cagayan Valley.

Meanwhile, 4,684 houses were damaged by the tremor, 4,670 of them partially destroyed and 14 totally damaged. Most affected houses were in CAR.

The number of affected families rose to 44,447, with at least 85 people reported injured due to the earthquake.

Three evacuation centers were activated, catering to 20 families whose houses were badly hit by the tremor.

The NDRRMC said a bridge in Ilocos Region remained not passable to motorists. Six domestic flights in Ilocos region were canceled.

The government has so far distributed P353,011.92 worth of assistance to earthquake victims.

Meanwhile, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology has so far recorded 763 aftershocks following the 6.4 magnitude earthquake that jolted Abra province on 25 October.

Of the total aftershocks, 158 were recorded as plotted earthquakes and 15 were tremors felt in the province and neighboring areas, with magnitudes ranging from 1.4 to 4.8, according to the latest data of Phivolcs as of Friday afternoon.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which was tectonic in origin and had a depth of 11 kilometers, was located seven kilometers northwest of Lagayan, Abra.
