The National Bureau of Investigation will conduct a swift and thorough investigation into the death of 22-year-old Jovelyn Galleno in Palawan and vowed to leave no stones unturned in the investigation.

This comes after remains of a body believed to be Galleno’s were recovered a few weeks after she was reported missing.

NBI Special Investigator III Cedric Caabay said they will conduct DNA testing of Galleno’s remains and while waiting for the result of the probe, they welcome additional information.

In the event the result of the DNA is different, they will be ready to move further in their probe and if it comes out positive, it will be part of the evidence that was filed before the fiscals office by the police probers.

Galleno — according to initial police reports — was raped and killed by her cousin. One of the suspects was freed after posting bail.

It was learned that one of the suspects — identified as Leobert Dasmariñas — was released after posting bail.

Dasmariñas was the one who reported the crime to the police and the location of the remains of Galleno in Barangay Pulang Bato, Puerto Princesa.

The remains of Galleno was discovered along with her personal effects of the victim two weeks after she was reported missing.

Information about the crime was discovered by the police after her cousin Jovert Valdestamon was stabbed by Dasmariñas, who is also his cousin, due to personal feud.

Valdestamon claimed that he has nothing to do with the rape and killing of his cousin and he will prove it in court.

The family of Jovelyn later decided to file a case against the suspects.

Meantime, the NBI will also look into the attack against Atty. Karen Quinanola-Gonzales and her son, Jeremy Keith, last 1 September in Mandaue City.

The agency’s investigation was based on the request of the victims family, according to NBI spokesperson Giselle Dumlao.

“Yes, the NBI is conducting an investigation on the said case. The family requested the NBI to conduct investigation,” said Dumlao.
