Arnie Taguines made school history when she became the first player from UT Permian Basin to win a tournament.

A freshman, the Filipina used a late surge to capture the RJGA Shootout at Estrella with a closing one-under-par 71 at the Golf Club of Estrella in Goodyear, Arizona Tuesday.

Taguines finished the 36-hole tournament on 4-under 140, one shot clear of Sydney Williams of Arkansas-Fort Smith who carded a 72.

Taguines and Williams, who entered the final round tied on 3-under, played even par in the first 13 holes before the Filipina fell behind by 2 on 14 following a bogey and the American's birdie.

But the Filipina fought back with birdies on 15 and 16 as Williams took a bogey on 15.

With a one-shot lead, Taguines secured the win by parring the last two holes.

UT Permian Basin, however, settled for fourth place on 18-over 594, six strokes behind winner Arkansas-Fort Smith.

Cal State San Marcos and UT Tyler took second and third on 589 and 592, respectively.

Over in Canton, Massachusetts, Samantha Bruce fired the day's best round — even-par 72 — to end up in a tie for third place in the Boston College Intercollegiate at the Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, Massachusetts Tuesday.

The Seattle University star, looking good ahead of the second stage of the LPGA Tour Q-School next month, finished on 4-over 220, just three behind winner Chantal El Chaib of Sacred Heart University who struggled to a 77.

Bruce was level with Leeyan Peralta of Quinnipiac who shot a 76.

She went out on 1-over after a birdie on 6 against bogeys on 4 and 7. She improved with two birdies against a bogey coming home.

Her heroics helped Seattle salvage a third-place finish on 45-over 909 in the team event, eight shots off Boston College. Elon took second on 903.

Meanwhile, Kristine Torralba finished in a share of eighth place after closing with a three-over-par 75 in the Westminster Wasatch Invitational at the Glenmoor Golf Club in South Jordan, Utah.

The 21-year-old Filipina, who plays for Texas A&M International, completed 54 holes on 10-over 226 in a tie with Claire Shubin of Dominican.

She parred the first three holes and birdied 4 before scattering four bogeys the rest of the way.

Ana Maria Jimenez Rios of University of Tampa was the only player to match par after the tournament despite a closing 74. She actually owned the only two sub-par rounds recorded in the event.

Emily Donaldson of Colorado Christian and Cassidy Phelan of Colorado Mesa tied for second on 4-over par 220.

University of Tampa won the team title on 27-over 891 with Colorado Christian and Colorado Mesa taking second and third on 907 and 922, respectively.

Texas A&M International settled for fourth on 928.
