What has been circulating in the rumor mill is now official: Former Chief Justice Lucas Bersamin is the new Executive Secretary.

President Bongbong Marcos on 27 September administered Bersamin's oath of office in Malacañang.

"He began his duties immediately by attending the ninth Cabinet meeting right after swearing in," said Press Secretary Trixie Cruz-Angeles.

Bersamin's appointment came after his predecessor, lawyer Vic Rodriguez, resigned amid the sugar importation fiasco.

From 2020 until his new post, Bersamin was chairperson of the Government Service Insurance System

He was Associate Justice in the Court of Appeals before getting appointed to the Supreme Court, where he became Chief Justice in 2018.

Bersamin earned his undergraduate degree from the University of the Philippines and graduated from the University of the East College of Law in 1973. He placed 9th in the 1973 bar examinations.
