Council backs nutribun feeding revival

The National Nutrition Council yesterday expressed its support for the revival of the Nutribun feeding program to address the malnutrition problem in the country.

In a public briefing, NCC executive director Azucena Dayanghirang said the agency supports the proposal of Senator Imee Marcos to revive the Nutribun feeding program.

"We all know that a feeding program is a good strategy to give nutrients to the body. That is why we, in the agency, are fully supporting the plan of Senator Imee," Dayanghirang said.

She underscored that the revival of the Nutribun feeding program, particularly in schools, will help counter hunger incidence, which became more prevalent due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Last Sunday, Marcos started the revival of the Nutribun feeding program in the provinces of Rizal, Cebu and Ilocos Norte, where 1,000 children, three to five years old, received packs of the bread made with squash, malunggay and other locally available high-nutrient crops.
