Man nabbed for love scam

A man involved in a love scam was arrested in an operation conducted by the joint forces of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group and Tarlac City Municipal Police Station last Tuesday.

According to PNP-ACG, the suspect who will not be names and his accomplice, was nabbed inside a mall in Barangay Cutcut 1, Tarlac.

The suspect's fraud started after he asked the victim for P400,000.00 who he just met on social media.
The suspect used a female name as Jennifer Natalia who is a member of the US Army stationed in Yemen, their relationship began on April 19, 2022.

The suspect also posted about the package containing USD 1.2M.

Starting June, the victim received text messages from an unregistered number and she introduced herself as Lucy Diaz, a Bureau of Customs employee, demanding P400,000.00 in payment for the parcel.

The victim was convinced that the person he was talking to was a real person so he send said money through money wire transfer, e-wallet and bank transactions.

The suspect seemed not satisfied and still was asking the victim for money one after the other, so he sought the help of the PNP-ACG, which resulted in the immediate arrest of the suspect.

The authorities remind the public, to be careful when using social media, be vigilant and not to immediately trust strangers, especially when the conversation involves money.
