QCPD, MMDA in tit for tat

The cop’s pleas fell on deaf ears and heated words were exchanged

August 14, 2022

Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) personnel and members of the Kamuning Police Station (PS) of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) engaged in a verbal tussle and swapped violation tickets.

The encounter happened when MMDA personnel ticketed a private car near the Kamuning PS for illegal parking, according to MMDA Task Force Special Operations head Bong Nebrija.

When the owner of the car, a cop, returned and found the parking violation ticket, he tried to reason out with the MMDA personnel that he just momentarily left his car to answer a roll call.

The cop’s pleas fell on deaf ears and heated words were exchanged. Other policemen attracted by the commotion then ticketed an MMDA enforcer for a Covid-19 ordinance violation for not wearing a mask.

Nebrija said they were conducting clearing-up operations that apply to everyone, including cops.

The QCPD, in turn, also said they need to apply the law equally, even as its officials vowed to get to the bottom of the incident.
