The Department of Environmental and Natural Resources (DENR) is investigating a complaint posted on social media over alleged overpriced seafood sold in Panglao’s Virgin Island in Bohol. A statement released today signed by DENR regional executive director Paquito Melicor said the regional office is looking into “the excessive charging of food meals by vendors”  in the area. Virgin Island is part of the Panglao Island Protected Seascape under the DENR.

In a viral post yesterday, a group of tourists claimed they had to pay over P26,000 for a meal of seafood in Virgin Island.

Bohol Governor Aris Aumentado also expressed alarm at the report and said he would call for an emergency meeting among stakeholders. The Bohol LGU has ordered the immediate suspension of banca trips to the island pending results of the probe into the incident.
