14-hour fire hits Tutuban Mall in Divisoria

A fire that lasted for 14 hours struck the Tutuban Mall in Divisoria, Manila early morning yesterday and gutted the Cluster A building and portion of Cluster B.
The fire, which broke out at 12:41 a.m., reached Task Force Charlie where Manila firefighters were reinforced by firemen from different parts of Metro Manila.
Manila Fire Marshall Supt. Felixberto Abrenica said they used chemical foam to put the temperature into cold so that the fire will not affect nearby eastablishments.
Stalls affected were those  selling textile and ready-to-wear outfit which explained why the fire spread quickly.
Firemen had a hard time controlling the fire as they used breathing apparatus so they could enter the inner part of the building.
Stall owners tried to salvage some of their wares after firemen  allowed them to enter the building.
The Manila Police District traffic division  closed Jose Abad Santos Street, C.M. Recto Avenue, Juan Luna Street to facilitate the entry of fire trucks and to detour motorists during the incident.
At press time, fire probers were still determining damage caused by the fire and the cause of the fire.
