Sen. Nancy Binay is now an adopted daughter of Marikina City, Mayor Marcelino “Marcy” Teodoro said on Monday. Binay was the guest of honor and keynote speaker during the city government’s flag-raising ceremony.
Mayor Teodoro has asked the city council to pass a resolution declaring the senator from Makati City as an adopted daughter of the city.
“It’s good if we have a senator as an ally, since we do not have yet a senator from Marikina. So, maybe we can adopt Senator Binay here in Marikina?” Teodoro asked his constituents, who answered in the affirmative.
The local chief executive also thanked the lady senator for visiting them and for sharing her visions for Marikeños. Teodoro also officially endorsed the candidacy of Senator Binay who is seeking reelection in this year’s midterm elections.
Teodoro recalled that he has a debt of gratitude to the senator’s father, former vice president Jejomar “Jojo” Binay, at the time when he ran for congressman.
For her part, Senator Binay thanked the city government for declaring her as adopted daughter of the city.
The lady senator also courted the vote of the Marikeños as she asked them to put her even at twelfth place of the senatorial race.
“Mayor Marcy, I have a request for our countrymen here in Marikina. In 2010, my father lost here and in 2013, I did not make it to the top 12 here,” Binay said.
“Then in 2016, my father lost again here in Marikina. Maybe you can even make me No. 12 in 2019,” she added.
