A Chinese national who threw a “taho” or soft tofu with syrup on a police officer at the MRT-3 station in Boni Avenue, Mandaluyong City Saturday morning is facing charges of disobedience to person of authority and unjust vexation.
Zhang Jiale, 23, was detained at a police station in Shaw Boulevard where her mugshot was also taken as National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief, Director General Guillermo Eleazar considered her action as an insult to men in uniform.
Eleazar told reporters that Zhang must be held accountable for her action.
The filing of charges against Zhang followed a supposed amicable settlement between her and Police Officer 1 William Cristobal, whose photo with taho staining his uniform, has become viral after being posted on social media.
Based on the initial report of the incident, Zhang entered the baggage inspection area of MRT-3 Boni station around 8:30 a.m.
Two security personnel asked Zhang to consume first her ‘taho’ before entering the station, but the passenger insisted on bringing it inside the platform area. The guards referred Zhang to Cristobal, who explained to the Chinese that the taho is not allowed inside the train for security reasons. An irked Zhang then suddenly threw her ‘taho’ to the police officer.
Cristobal brought Zhang to the police station in Shaw Boulevard for filing of a complaint against her. There, the Chinese national apologized to Cristobal. But before she was to be released, Eleazar intervened so she was detained.
