Blackwater looks to add to San Miguel Beer’s piling woes when they clash in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Governors’ Cup tonight at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.
The match is set at 7 p.m. with the struggling Elite eyeing to be latest underdog to upset the favorite yet seemingly puzzled Beermen who are having problems this early in their five-peat All Filipino conference bid.

Columbian (2-3) and Alaska (0-1), meanwhile, collide in the curtain raiser at 4:30 p.m.
Sporting a 1-3 record, the rebuilding Blackwater is currently in the cellar of the team standings, explaining head coach Bong Ramos’ tall order for his wards to spring a huge upset of the heavy favorite San Miguel Beer.

“We have to be ready,” he said. “We can’t afford to have a slow start just like our last game. We’re the underdogs so we can’t relax. We have to be aggressive right away to keep up with the reigning champions.”

Ramos doesn’t want another horror start for his wards like their 9-31 trip against the league-leader and unbeaten Phoenix last Friday that led to their 95-114 defeat.

Fortunately for Ramos, he has a promising rookie core of Diego Dario, Paul Desiderio and Abu Tratter to bank on.

“Good thing, our rookies are showing up. We’re a young and new team. We’ve got a long way to go so we have to keep our discipline. That’s the positive thing,” he said.

“We just have to hang with them. We will try to stay with them because who knows? The luck might be on our side in the end. We will try.”

That bid, however, will not be an easy nut to crack for the Elite especially with the Beermen looking to end their struggle right before it even gets out of hand.

Kings of the Philippine Cup for the last four years, the Beermen’s mission for a fifth straight title is suddenly in peril with two straight losses, including a recent 98-108 loss to Rain or Shine last Friday that dragged them down in the standings at 2-3.

San Miguel will welcome the return of veteran forward Arwind Santos, who sat out the last game due to food poisoning.
