Punctual Clark gets two-stars

Clark International Airport (CRK) received a two-star citation for on-time performance (OTP) from an air travel intelligence company based in the United Kingdom, according to an executive of the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC).

“Clark is the only airport in the country to be given this two-star rating by the Official Aviation Guide (OAG) and the first ever star rating we received,” CIAC president Jaime Alberto Melo said.

CRK’s two-star rating was based on its annual OTP of 71.3 percent during the June 2017 to May 2018 rating period.

“The two-star rating is a testament to Clark’s competency in providing exceptional air services,” Melo added.

The OTP Star Rating is a global accreditation program of OAG that recognizes excellent flight punctuality performance across all airports and airlines regardless of size, geographic location or aviation peer group.

“This recognition is indeed a welcome development as Clark Airport celebrates its 24th anniversary this month,” Melo said.

One-star ratings were given to Ninoy Aquino International Airport (MNL), Iloilo International Airport (ILO) and Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA).

Based in the United Kingdom, the OAG is a top provider of air travel data and analytics, which delivers accurate, timely and actionable digital flight information and applications to airlines, airports, government agencies and other travel-related service companies across the globe.

On-time performance for airports is measured by the number of departures and arrivals taking place in about 15 minutes after scheduled departure/arrival times, including cancellations.

To achieve an OTP star rating, airlines and airports must have a minimum of 600 operations per month, with OAG able to process flight status information for not less than 80 percent of scheduled flights in a 12-month period, according to Melo.

OAG is best known for its airline schedules database which holds future and historical flight details for more than 900 airlines and over 4,000 airports.

Clark Airport averages around 11,500 passengers daily and registers a weekly average of 714 combined domestic and international flights.
