Northport essayed a close 95-90 win over NLEX last night to stay perfect in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) Philippine Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

Sean Anthony led the way for Northport with 22 points, nine rebounds, five assists and seven steals while Mo Tautuaa added 18 points and 11 rebounds.

“It’s all about defense and total team effort,” said head coach Pido Jarencio whose wards gained the solo lead with a 2-0 slate.

“Everybody did their share and because of that, we’re now 2-0. But we still got a long way.
Nevertheless, this is a good morale booster for our campaign this season,” Jarencio added,
Third overall pick Robert Bolick also continued his strong rookie campaign for the Batang Pier who already matched their win-record in the season-ending conference Governors’ Cup where they finished with a 2-9 slate.

Bolick spearheaded Northport’s 117-91 debut win over Blackwater last Wednesday with 26 points, three rebounds and three assists.

NLEX remained winless in two games despite the breakout game of newest player John Paul Erram who racked up 19 points, seven rebounds, two assists and three blocks.

JR Quinahan also added 18 points for the Road Warriors who lost their first game against Rain or Shine, 87-96, last Friday.
